Education

We teach two courses per year. The content is designed to be approachable for students from a diverse set of science and engineering backgrounds. We also offer semester projects / theses for highly motivated students.

This course aims at providing a solid conceptual understanding to the main concepts of optics and photonics. We will describe the laws obeyed by optical waves and discuss how to use them to manipulate light. Finally we will see how these concepts are applied in everyday objects and cutting-edge research.

This course builds on the foundations of the first course and prepares students for research or work in the field, by firstly introducing the principal concepts of nanophotonics, describing some of the main implementations to control light on the nanometer scale and finally presenting specific applications where nanophotonics has made breakthrough contributions.
